For Deke Dickerson, rock & roll is at its best in its rawest form, back when it mixed freely with rockabilly, country, western swing and rhythm & blues. A guitarist, singer and genuine scholar of American roots music, he has spent decades exploring that musical landscape with a combination of virtuosity, humour and devotion to the sounds of the ’40s and ’50s. Whether fronting Deke Dickerson and the Ecco-Fonics or working across his many projects and collaborations, he has made the guitar the centrepiece of a repertoire packed with twang, hillbilly and primitive rock & roll.
