John Garcia’s voice is forever tied to the sound of the desert. As the frontman of Kyuss, he became one of the defining figures of the Palm Desert scene that, in the early ’90s, turned crushing riffs, psychedelia and groove into the language that would become known as desert rock and stoner rock. Albums such as Blues for the Red Sun and Welcome to Sky Valley left an enormous mark, establishing Kyuss as a cult band whose influence continues to resonate decades later. After their split, Garcia kept that spirit alive through Slo Burn, Unida, Hermano, Vista Chino and his solo career. His return to Azkena Rock Festival brings one of heavy rock’s most unmistakable voices back to Mendizabala, together with a catalogue that has earned its place in the genre’s history.
