More than twenty years after splitting up, 16 Horsepower returned to the stage in 2026, and having them at Azkena Rock Festival’s 25th anniversary will be a real privilege for the festival. Formed in Denver and led by David Eugene Edwards, they created a world of their own in the ’90s, where dark country, Appalachian folk, gospel and alternative rock came together with an almost spiritual intensity. Cult albums such as Sackcloth ’n’ Ashes and Low Estate established them as an essential reference in gothic Americana and alternative country, with songs steeped in faith, guilt, redemption and death. This June, we’ll have the chance to see for ourselves that their darkness and magnetism remain as powerful as ever.
