The Bird Experience use psychedelic blues as a starting point for a sound that opens out into soul, funk and improvisation. Hailing from the Netherlands and led by vocalist and harmonica player Mees Vullings, the band can expand to as many as twelve musicians on stage, shaping a live set that is fluid and constantly evolving. Their self-titled debut, released in 2026, draws on the spirit of the ’60s and ’70s without treating it as an exercise in nostalgia, using those references instead as the foundation for a sound of their own. Appearances at festivals such as Roadburn underline their strength as a live band, a quality they now bring to Azkena Rock Festival.
