Hailing from Dallas, Texas, Old 97’s have spent more than three decades proving that country and rock & roll work particularly well when played with punk urgency. Led by Rhett Miller and still featuring their classic line-up, they were one of the key bands in defining the alt-country sound of the ’90s, building a catalogue of fast-paced guitars, irresistible melodies and tales of love, excess and life on the road. Albums such as Too Far to Care and Fight Songs established them as a cornerstone of a scene they helped propel, while more recent records such as American Primitive prove there’s still plenty of fuel in the tank.
